Ben’s Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support

Ben’s fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support: Men’s Edinburgh 10K, 22 September 2024.
I’m Ben Caird, the COO of Boxergy, and I’m reaching out today to share something deeply personal and important to me. On the 22nd of September, I’ll be participating in the Edinburgh 10k, running in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. This isn’t just any run—this one carries special significance because I’m doing it in memory of John Osypiw, a former pivotal employee of Boxergy who made an indelible mark on our company and our lives.
John was much more than a colleague; he was an inspiration to all of us. His energy, dedication, and unwavering positivity left a lasting legacy at Boxergy, and his memory continues to guide us in our work every day. John’s battle with cancer was a tough one, and while he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the work we do and in the way we support each other. That’s why I’m taking on this challenge—both to honour John’s memory and to support a cause that was close to his heart.
Why Macmillan Cancer Support?
Macmillan Cancer Support is an incredible organisation that has been a lifeline for countless individuals and families affected by cancer. They provide not just medical support, but also emotional, financial, and practical assistance to those who need it most. From the moment someone is diagnosed, throughout treatment, and beyond, Macmillan is there, offering a helping hand and a listening ear.
Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support means contributing to a cause that has a real, tangible impact on the lives of people facing one of the toughest challenges imaginable. The work they do helps to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone. They fund nurses and support staff who provide essential care, and they offer a range of services designed to help people navigate the complexities of living with cancer.
But their work doesn’t stop there. Macmillan is also involved in advocating for better cancer care policies and conducting vital research to improve outcomes for patients. By supporting them, we’re not just helping individuals; we’re contributing to a larger movement aimed at improving the lives of everyone affected by cancer.
Boxergy’s Commitment
At Boxergy, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting each other through thick and thin. When I decided to run this 10k, it wasn’t just a personal decision—it was something that everyone at Boxergy rallied around. We all knew how much John meant to us, and we wanted to find a way to honour his memory and contribute to a cause that he cared deeply about.
I’m proud to say that Boxergy is fully behind this effort. Our team is not only cheering me on as I train and prepare for the race, but we’re also making a collective effort to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. As a company, we’re committed to making a difference in the fight against cancer, and we see this run as just one way of doing that.
Our support for Macmillan goes beyond this race. We want to be a part of the broader effort to support everyone who suffers from cancer. Whether it’s through fundraising, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, Boxergy is committed to standing with those who are fighting this disease and with the organisations that are working tirelessly to support them.
How You Can Help
I’m reaching out to ask for your support, not just for me, but for everyone who benefits from the incredible work that Macmillan does. There are many ways you can get involved:
- Donate: Any contribution, no matter how small, can make a huge difference. Donations can be made directly through my JustGiving fundraising page. Every penny raised goes towards helping Macmillan provide their essential services.
- Spread the Word: Even if you’re unable to donate, you can still help by sharing this message with your network. The more people who know about this cause, the more support we can generate.
- Join Us: If you’re in Edinburgh on the 22nd of September, come out and cheer! Your encouragement means the world to me and everyone else participating in the race.
Running this 10k is just one way to show our support, but together, we can make a real difference. Let’s honour John’s memory, support those who are currently battling cancer, and contribute to a future where no one has to face this disease alone.
Thank you for your support—whether it’s through donations, sharing this message, or simply keeping us in your thoughts on race day. Your involvement means more than words can express.
